There was a diabolical com-
plimentarity between a twist-
ed, tortured, partial genius
who sought release in gaining
power over men and a nation,
humiliated and divided, that
hoped for a return to grandeur.
The New American Government is
probably safe in believing the
People do not take much inter-
est in its project to overturn
a government in Germany. There
is less chance that they won't
read of their place in history.
One's advice to the mind, this
Fourth of July, is to consider
the extant German Chancellor's
to the EEC: to accept alliance
with cultures of humane values
before yielding to nationalist
temptation to abandon humanity.
