  3. Cher Lucien, I wonder sometimes which comes first - the photographer, the figure, the context, the beholder, the antecedent in the mind to which the picture might allude, the constituency in reality which it might represent. I see many examples tending to give primary credit to the photographer, but there are also figures, too - like Lauridsen - who can strike such an articulate message with their gifts, that it must be unbelievably stimulating to study them with the camera.

I try to co-operate in the third category.

It's very nice of you to remark -- in their favour, I'm guessing?

  4. My dear JtB, with cuisse de grenouille as the backup plan, you are the last man who needs to be told, one can hardly lose! And remember, in the well-ordered kingdom, there is likely to be more than one Prince. This, too, is not objectionable ..

  5. As you possibly know, David, a heavy sudden rain in sandy places, such as Williamsburg in Virginia, already a riparian maze, will hatch frogs' eggs by the millions, making for a treacherous pedestrian experience. They don't emerge as taddies, or as princes, so far as has been reported.

  6. As to the Country of Origin, Ivan, it's no more than true to say that the fairest of our comestibles in both categories named above, have arrived from France. By what merciful dispensation, no one can even speculate.

Are you, by chance, announcing some inspired whim of travel for yourself, Maître? One can only beg - civilly, of course.

  8. Marvelous! No need to be "civil," then! :)

No, one need only look at your work, to know that this is true.
