  1. Toronto Film Festival starts soon, however I do not think they will be roping off the pool of the Sheraton.

  2. Must have a more creative insurance agent than the VSOE - or is, perhaps, that the screening venue? Puts one in mind of Swift's "A Tale of the Tub," and David, one could think of attending that.

  3. Is he wearing a bow tie? Looks like he is.

  5. A timelier proof of clear thinking could not have emerged, dear Franck, or from a likelier source; and here we just were, lamenting the binarisms of our Virginia Governor. Yes, the antic lapel is not incompatible with the bow tie, nor is the bracelet a poor replacement for Mr Cooper's ornamental cigarette, come to think of it. I enjoyed their different modes of conveyance over the lagoon, which I know have not been exhausted by these alternatives, either; and to which one must commit one's mind, under the guidance you've bestowed.

But for now, the terrestrial approach to Venice occupies one's contemplation. Do you recall, in David Lean's "Summertime," Katherine Hepburn's adoption of the rail coach?

  6. A hero of mine. And a well chosen photograph

It strikes me that film festivals could still become a more widespread institution. I don't personally know anyone who attends, say, London's Times Film Festival, even though it offers a wealth of interesting things

  7. This is from 1963, the year he won the Volpi Cup for "Hud," one of the most extraordinary things he did as an actor, with a cast of whom the same could also be said.
